Youth Voice Handbook – DONE

Three years in the making, I finally completed the Washington Youth Voice Handbook tonight. It is everything I wanted it to be when I began the project in 2003:

  • A scan of every activity I know about related to Youth Voice across this state
  • An introduction to Youth Voice, offered through a critical/democratic lens
  • A toolbox packed with on-the-spot, pick-em-up-and-go activities for readers
  • Readable for both young people and adults

Next steps are the introduction of the piece throughout the fields… I’m not quite sure how that will go, considering the luke-warm reception the Guide to Social Change recieved. However, this is a different beast, almost entirely. My hope is that OSPI will pick up on it and help seriously push it, along with the national service learning folks. There is also a stream of community organizers that I believe should use it, but I’m not sure how to “get in.”

Then there’s the mainstream. Let me know if you have any ideas of how to get the word out on this powerful, hopeful, realistic, honest portrait that shows another world is possible.
