Its another smooth day at the CommonAction office. I’m just coming off another trip back East, this time to spend a few days with my friends Karen and Jenny at Youth On Board. We’re at the beginning of writing an excellent trifecta of publications:
- “Getting Youth On Board in Schools” is the working title for a book that will detail a philosophy, framework, and activities for educators who are committed to youth engagement in high schools.
- “Adultism in Education” will present a comprehensive theory detailing the oppression of youth in schools. Using examples from Karen, Jenny, and my experiences working in K-12 schools to promote youth voice, we’ll lay down the ‘real deal’ about what’s happening in schools.
- “Youth Engagement Case Studies” will feature a few different districts on either coast that are using comprehensive youth engagement models to promote academic achievement.
This is some of the stuff movements are made of, and some of where I want CommonAction to be positioned. Anyway, it brings to mind one of my favorite hip hop songs of the moment, of which I found a video for you to watch if you want. Here’s “Feel That Way” by Blackalicious.
